Buying New vs Used Cars

Whether you are looking to buy your first vehicle or your20th, there is always one thing you have to decide right off the bat: new or used. Each comes with their own sets of pros and cons and in today’s blog at Auto Warehouse in Brighton and Fort Collins, we talk about the benefits and drawbacks of buying new cars versus buying used cars. Keep reading to learn more, and if you are interested in a great deal on a used car in a low-pressure environment, stop by one of our Auto Warehouse locations today!

Cost

For most people, price is going to be the main driving factor for your decision (pun intended). If you are on a budget and simply need something to get you from A to B, then a used car will likely be the best route. Or, if you are financially secure and interested in getting the exact brand new, cutting-edge vehicle you want, a new car can be a great option, too.

Up-Front

When you consider up-front costs, a new car is most definitely going to cost more than a used car. This is especially true if you don’t plan on auto financing and are looking to purchase the vehicle outright. Obviously, there are some situations in which the used car will cost more upfront than the new one (say a used Ferrari versus a new Honda). But most of the time, purchasing used cars and trucks come with a lower up-front cost than new.

Long-Term

Long-term value is where new cars can sometimes have more appeal than used cars. The lifespan of a used car often depends on how many miles are on it and how well it was treated by the previous owner(s). But in some cases, a brand new car may last you longer than a used one — especially if the used car has 100,000+ miles on the clock. So while you may pay more for a new car, it’s possible that it will have a longer lifespan than a used car will. However, there are so many factors and variables in play that it varies that it can be impossible to say if one car will last longer than another.

Condition

Some vehicle owners take immaculate care of their cars. They always keep them in the garage, regularly wash them, change the oil, and proactively take care of any maintenance needs before they come up. Other vehicle owners don’t change the oil until the light comes on and only take care of an issue once it makes it so they can no longer drive the vehicle. With a new car, there is no need to think about how it may have been treated in the past since no one has owned it before you.

It’s worth noting, though, that at Auto Warehouse in Fort Collins and Brighton we only put cars on our lots that we would be comfortable driving ourselves. We thoroughly inspect each and every car from top to bottom to ensure that you are getting a quality used vehicle at a reasonable price that will last you years to come. Personal Value

No one knows whether a new car or a used car will be better for you than you do! If you are someone who values having low or no car payments on a reliable car that will comfortably get you where you need to go, then used cars are going to be more valuable to you. If you are someone who appreciates that finer things in life, the most cutting-edge technology, and getting from A to B in style and comfort, then a new car may prove to be more valuable to you. It all depends on what you are looking for in a car.
